Marcus Smith
Marcus Smith serves as producer and anchor for Thinking Aloud. His life in radio spans a fruitful decade
with BYU Broadcasting, where he was long the morning host for Classical 89 (KBYU-FM) and where he continues
to serve as senior radio producer. With a master’s degree in German literature from BYU (1992), Marcus has
worked as a writer, editor, translator, teacher, and composer of sacred vocal music. He’s known as a
wordsmith, with a strong hankering to place the right word in the right place at the right time … at least
as often as occasion permits. He and his wife Sarah Cox Smith are former Fulbright Scholars (with studies
in Germany and Japan), avid genealogists, gardeners, hikers, wannabe fine chefs, and the parents of four
super spunky children (two girls, two boys).
Wes Sims
Thinking Aloud’s executive producer Wes Sims is also heard as an occasional interview host. Wes joined
Classical 89 and the Thinking Aloud team in January, 2006, capping a 35 year career in broadcast journalism
at television and radio stations in six states. In addition to his work with Thinking Aloud, Wes is news
director for Classical 89 and manager of news and information for BYU Broadcasting. A native of Terre Haute,
Indiana and a graduate of Northwestern University, Wes grew up near Chicago. He and his wife, Jackie lived
in Santa Cruz, California for many years before moving to Utah. They love the mountains, but still miss
the roar of the ocean.
