Once upon a Quinceanera, with Author Julia Alvarez
Julia Alvarez has garnered both praise and fame for her works of fiction such as "How the Garcia Girls Lost Their Accents" and "In the Time of the Butterflies." Her first nonfiction piece has appeared, titled "Once Upon a Quinceanera: Coming of Age in the USA," a book in which Alvarez explores an invented tradition that has become a cultural cornerstone for many Latina girls and their families. Thinking Aloud talks to Julia Alvarez and Trenton Hickman of the BYU Department of English. Hickman has a specialty in Latino/a Literature.—Original airdate: 8/29/2007
