Thinking Aloud
Immigration in Public Schools
Immigration is no longer an issue that affects only border states, like California and Texas. Utah is attracting new residents from other countries, especially from south of the border. Many of these new Utahans don't speak English, some are here illegally, all of them--at least all who come with children--enter the educational system, eager to learn the language and claim their piece of the American dream. Host Wes Sims explores the "Language of Understanding" and introduces a new television documentary in this Thinking Aloud interview with KBYU-TV producer Mark Phillips, A. Legrand (Buddy) Richards (BYU Department of Educational Leadership & Foundations), and Fidel Montero (Assitant Principal, Timpview High School).—Original airdate: 8/28/2006
