Jason De Leon: The US Southwest Desert--Dangerous Death Trap for Many Migrants
On most days, hundreds or even thousands of migrants attempt to cross the desert that stretches across northern Mexico into southern Arizona. Driven primarily by the simple desire for economic survival, they endure extremes of temperature and environment and many die enroute.  Today’s guest on Thinking Aloud is a specialist on migration and has studied intensely not only what occurs on these migrant trails, but the ways in which U.S. and Mexican governmental policy in large part set apart these areas to serve as killing machines in the first place. It’s a largely invisible yet huge societal problem that we have yet to begin to deal with.—Original airdate: 8/1/2016
