Hildegard von Bingen: The Legacy
Lara Asplund teaches a course on the artistic, religious, and literary contributions of this "first of women composer"--that is to say, the first known by name in the Western European tradition. Thinking Aloud invites Lara Asplund, her husband and BYU Composer-in-Residence Christian Asplund, and visiting guest artist Margriet Tindemans, world-renowned in her field of early music performance, to assess this legacy from medieval times. This episode of Thinking Aloud, in its original broadcast version, contained a segment of music that is not licensed for on-demand presentation. The spoken content from the program can be heard here in its entirety.—Original airdate: 7/5/2006
