Thinking Aloud
Pham Quang Vinh: Vietnamese Ambassador to the United States
When thinking of Vietnam, most Americans think first of the kind of landscape most often portrayed in Hollywood war movies--lush green forest. There's far more than just that to the topography and the people of this country. Vietnam is now the 13th largest nation in the world by population; many of its cities look far more like Manhattan or Shanghai than a Forrest Gump movie set. This interview explores the current Vietnamese position on the world stage--a radically changed position from the war-torn country of bygone years. Of particular interest is, of course, the new U.S.-Vietnam partnership that has emerged since the normalization of diplomatic relations.—Original airdate: 11/9/2015
