Thinking Aloud
Unemployed Men and the Division of Care Work in the Home
Of all the "us vs. them" controversies, the one most fundamental to the human race is probably not between religions, nations, or political parties, but between male and female--husband, wife--him and her. On today's Thinking Aloud, we talk about a sociological study that examines the "negotiation of household labor during unsettled times." Put less delicately, we'll be asking why men who have lost their jobs just won't pick up the slack at home. Our guest is BYU sociologist Marie Cornwall.—Original airdate: 10/17/2007
