On Saturday, February 27th, a magnitude 8.8 earthquake struck close to Conception, Chile. The quake triggered a powerful tsunami that devastated coastal towns in both the Maule and Bio Bio regions and damage and deaths have occurred as far north as the capital city of Santiago according to government reports. Full reports of casualties, damage and needs are not yet available.
Also, as you undoubtedly know, on January 12th, a magnitude 7.0 earthquake struck 10 miles outside the capital city of Haiti. Port-au-Prince was devastated, along with many other neighboring cities, and the death toll has been catastrophic.
